Panama – National state of emergency

27 marzo, 2020

The designated operator of Panama (Rep.), Correos de Panamá, asks us to inform other Union member countries and their designated operators that, owing to the rising number of cases of COVID-19, the government has adopted new public health measures, and has extended the countrywide curfew to 24 hours a day with effect from 25 March 2020, for the duration of the state of national emergency.

Given this situation, all categories of inbound, outbound and transit mail are suspended until further notice.

For this reason, Correos de Panamá is no longer in a position to guarantee the standards for incoming and outgoing mail and is invoking the force majeure clause with respect to quality of service and the quality link to remuneration for all categories of items (letters, EMS, parcels and packages) until further notice. The recent measures have also affected Correos de Panamá's operational centres and post offices, with some offices closed, reduced human resources for operations and administration, reduced hours of customer service, and work limited to two days a week, to safeguard employees while continuing to provide the Panamanian population with its national postal service.

Correos de Panamá thanks all Union member countries and their designated operators for their understanding. It will update them on any relevant changes via EmIS.
