South Africa – Measures to limit the spread of the coronavirus

25 marzo, 2020

The designated operator of South Africa, South African Post Office Ltd., asks us to inform other Union member countries and their designated operators that, owing to the outbreak and rapid spread of COVID-19 and the increasing number of infections in South Africa, the government has taken a number of steps aimed at reducing social contacts and physical movements to a minimum.

In addition, because of the suspension of many flights, exchanges of both inbound and outbound mails are currently blocked.

All post offices nationwide will be closed while the country is on lockdown, and all mail classes will be delayed. South African Post Office therefore requests that delivery standards be suspended in this force majeure situation.

At present, normal services are due to resume as of 17 April. South African Post Office will advise its partners of its status at that time.

South African Post Office thanks all Union member countries and their designated operators for their understanding. It will update them of any relevant changes via EmIS.
